Beauty Salon Secrets is the brain child of Mackenzie and Michael Carr. It is the fruit of their desire to write a book that explains all the necessities and nuances of opening a beauty salon. Mackenzie's roots began more than twenty-five years ago as a hair stylist for family and friends. She is a graduate of Wilfred Academy, a licensed cosmetologist in the state of New Jersey for twenty years and also licensed in the state of Virginia.

Mackenzie has salon experience in several areas. Having worked in a casino salon, independently owned salons, chain salons, and a barber shop, she has held three managerial positions. The previous owner of three salons one being home-based, Mackenzie has more than twenty years experience in the Beauty Salon industry. Retired now, she is a consultant for start-up Hair Salons. Much of her time is spent developing information products to help others in the industry. Her first salon was "Hair Designs" for ten years, "Miss Meashah's Hair Studio", and "A Virtuous Woman Salon". She continues to serve as a model for others.


Together, Michael and Mackenzie have more than forty years experience in the Beauty Salon industry. Michael has been the owner of three salons and has been building them more than twenty years. He has owned two salons in the city of Philadelphia, Chez Cherie, MAC Hair Design and A Virtuous Woman in New Jersey. Michael has his roots in the glass and mirror business, which began in New York City as a teenager. He was the proprietor of two glass and mirror showrooms one in Pennsylvania the other in New Jersey.

Michael has done work for Creative Salons of Brooklyn and Mr. B's of New York. Michael has constructed more than fifty beauty salons in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia. He has done small salons, home-based salons, and huge ten to twelve station salons. He has done entire projects from start to finish. Lately, his expertise has put him in great demand in Florida and Delaware.
